Here's what your Linux distro says about you. If you're new here, my name is Nate. I work in IT and cybersecurity as a government contractor and I help people get into the industry. So if that interests you, drop a follow. Now, this is in the spirit of Microsoft making Windows arguably the worst OS so far. First up is Linux Mint. This one's usually for people that are scared to kind of walk away from Windows and just wanna test the waters. This is a stable resource and I honestly can't say too much against it. It just means that you just wanna test the waters. Now for a more full experience of the Linux environment, nine times out of ten, you usually see people using Ubuntu. It's utilised across enterprise systems with servers and also the desktop version. This one just tells me you're actually fully driving Linux everyday. Next up we have Fedora. Nine times out of ten, this probably means you're studying for a Red Hat Linux certification but don't want to cough up the coin for the actual Red Hat build. Now, probably back somewhere in 2011, 2012, you downloaded Kali thinking you were a hacker and then realised you didn't know how to use any of the tools. And that's okay, just learn how to use the tool. Next up we have Tails. If you use Tails, I'm genuinely worried for you. Like, what are you hiding? You're probably on a list somewhere. Last up, we have Arch Linux. This by far is the most overhyped distro to date because it became popular on TikTok because you can make it look cool with KDEs. Plot twist, you can do that with any build of Linux. So this tells me you're just easily influenced and if you look at the download structure of Arch Linux by default, you'll realise it's the most insecure build of Linux to date. So be careful. Not saying it's unusable, not saying it doesn't have a place, just make sure your configurations are set and, uh, tips to the wise, just learn how to use Linux.
