Your system will still run, but it will no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, or technical support. That means every unpatched vulnerability from here on out becomes a permanent risk. What won’t happen: your PC won’t suddenly break or crash. You’ll still boot up, open apps, browse the web, and use your files. But behind the scenes, your operating system stops evolving, no new patches, no new defenses. What will happen: within months, browsers, drivers, and Microsoft 365 apps will begin dropping Windows 10 support. Compatibility issues will rise, older software will fail to update, and new exploits will surface with no official fix. Over time, your system becomes easier to compromise. Extended Security Updates (ESU): If you can’t upgrade yet, Microsoft is offering Extended Security Updates to keep Windows 10 protected for one additional year (until October 2026). The ESU program delivers critical and important security patches, but no new features. Consumers can enroll directly through their Windows 10 settings, redeem Microsoft Rewards points, or purchase a one year ESU license (around $30 USD). This bridge program keeps your PC secure temporarily while you plan a full upgrade to Windows 11 or another OS.
