it’s been one week since our lives changed forever and we lost the place we called home and everything we owned. a place filled with love, warmth, protection, and happiness. if you know me, you know my home is my everything. it’s my family’s safe place. I loved keeping my home beautiful and taking care of a home. in a blur, 30 minutes after lightning struck our home and my husband yelled “our house is on fire, we gotta go!” I jumped out of bed from sleeping and grabbed my daughter, my shoes, my gun (very Marine Corps wife of me lol), and my laptop. everything else, the life that Luis and I had so lovingly built in the past decade is gone. I still don’t get it. I don’t understand why it was our home and why nothing else got struck. when I drive through the metroplex and see tall buildings and wonder how we were the only ones this happened to. but that’s not for me to know, it’s for God to know and will be part of our testimony one day. this loss is heavy. though we are so fortunate and grateful to not have lost each other, we are grieving and this loss feels heavy like losing a person. home is something we all know. it’s more than just stuff — it’s a place, a familiarity, routines, and your life. today has been very hard and I know the road ahead is long and challenging but we so gratefully appreciate the support we’ve received from family, friends, neighbors, and even complete strangers. the love we’ve been shown has made so much light come out of the darkness we’re experiencing. 🤍 home isn’t just 4 walls, it’s the love that Luis, our daughter and I have for each other. and I hope to remember that on these tough days when we just miss our house and the life we had so much.
