What we're looking at here is the desk of a corporate employee who worked from home. A painstaking recreation. You think it looks depressing? Well, it does to us now, but this worker actually would have been seen as very fortunate at the time to get to work from home. You see, most of the laborers in those times had to manually drive a vehicle to a physical office, in a practice known as commuting. And today we have a special treat for all of you on the tour, our archivists have preserved a work from home outfit. This shirt would have been visible on a video call and was viewed as more professional for the time, since it had buttons. And then the pants are soft and wide. The pants would not be visible on a video call, so they could be more comfortable than hard pants. What were hard pants? Denim or other fabric that constricted the body without stretching. You see, the sedentary workers found soft pants more forgiving. Now, for many workers, the work meant calls. And the workers were forced to talk to each other using a laptop. This recreated model has human fingerprints on it, just as a real one would have. Question: Were the video calls effective? No, but it made the human leaders feel very powerful to see so many people listening to them on a video call.
