Are you looking for a cybersecurity lab? Showing you how to install and use WireShark on a Linux system. Here, my name is Nate, the best smelling IT and cybersecurity professional, and I help people break into the industry. So if that, sure you follow me and save this video for later. Okay? Like always, what we're gonna do before we install, we're gonna do sudo apt update. I'm just running in a simple Ubuntu box. I'm gonna type in my password. Haven't updated this machine in a second, actually take a second. So we're just and then we're gonna do sudo apt install -y WireShark. Whoa. And that is gonna pull the WireShark repository for us and download it. So, yes. Uh, theoretically, you want to not run WireShark with root privileges. So sudo. This is literally a spun up just so I'm not too worried about it. What you would allow the particular user profile that you're on access to use WireShark out packets. So for this to install, show you how it's useful. And trust me, there's a giant rabbit hole you when using this tool. Go. So, wanna clear that out? Like I said, don't normally run this as pseudo, but this is literally an empty space, worried about it. Um, that command pseudo WireShark ampersand. That or not ampersand. The and symbol is gonna be your WireShark instance. Go ahead and select that one. Blur all this out, but you'll be able to see traffic starting to so an easy way to start filtering things. Different examples of what we're gonna do. Essentially do three different filters. We're going to DNS lookups, web requests and then just like a simple ping. So you'll essentially have DNS, P, and ICMP. Be our three filters that we uh, if I could type. Cool. Sent a dig request. WireShark and just type in. Alright, so once we look through it, be it right here. You'll see it example.com. And that's how you would filter. So the next gonna be a HTTP. So we can do curl. And HTTP request. Would imagine, we WireShark here in HTTP. Filter all of TP, um, traffic. And then we'll just do a simple echo response. Be our ICMP. Alright, so you're gonna type in ping taxi. This is just, I believe Google's. So. Alright, INC P4 packets submitted, four received. Okay. So you these are our packets. We look for our destination address, eight. Eight. Dead giveaway. So I echoed the ping requests, and, uh, you can obviously and break down the packets as you wish. So that's a very simple thing that you can do to start breaking into cybersecurity labs. One of the comfortable with, because there's a lot that you can dig out of those packets. This is why networking is always a fundamental necessity when it comes to cyber security, that you get within those boundaries are insane.
