Is cybersecurity for you? If you're thinking about getting into the information security, the cyber security industry. Y'all have to stop paying so much attention to the money and start trying to design your lifestyle around the type of job that you're gonna have. Because the truth is, if you want to make six figures, you can make six figures in identity and access management, you can make six figures in GRC, pen testing, sock analyst, security engineer, vulnerability management, business continuity and disaster recovery. You can make six figures doing all of it. It's not about the money. The money will come. It's about what do you want and how do you actually operate as a person? The reason I personally chose GRC for me is because I live a very boring life. GRC is boring, guys. I'm not a guru who's trying to drive all these flashy cars and go on exotic vacations. That's just not me. I like to walk in the woods and take hikes. Most of the stuff that I like to do is free. I like to ride motorcycles. Like, bro, if you wanna make fun of me because I work in spreadsheets all day, listen, I have it. I don't care. I'm gonna make my money and live my life the way I want to live my life. So if you're somebody who feels like they need to travel and they need to be up and out and going and doing all this different stuff, that's what my day pretty much consists of. Meetings, policy drafting, Excel spreadsheets, project management. And from the engineering aspect of my job, I do, you know, write scripts or build these little automations and stuff like that here and there. But like, that's what my day pretty much consists of. So if you're somebody who feels like they need to travel and they need to be up and out and going and doing all this different stuff, maybe cybersecurity isn't for you. Maybe you should look at something that's a little bit more, like, heads down on the computer. Like sales or being an account executive or something like that where you're traveling and you're going to meet clients or consultancy. Right? There's also cybersecurity consultancy where you can go when you can travel and things like that. But if that's the type of lifestyle that you're looking for, bro, GRC probably isn't going to be for you. You should probably look at something that's a little bit more, like, heads down on the computer. My natural personality is very introverted, even though I'm also very social. I wouldn't say that I'm an extrovert though. Like I would rather be at my house. But I'm social enough to have a lot of meetings, which works for me in the GRC realm. If you're somebody who's even more introverted than I am and you don't really want to have a lot of face time with people, you don't want to have a lot of meetings and stuff like that, GRC probably isn't going to be for you.
