If you make $75,000 but you're not worth $100,000, here's what you need to do. After taxes, that's around $57,000 per year or $4,750 per month. So now the question is, what do you do with the $4,750 per month to get $100,000? 60% of that goes towards your needs, that's things like rent, utilities, bills, etc. So that's around $2,850 a month. Then 10% of that goes towards wants, which is $475 a month. Then another 10% goes towards savings and 20% or $950 goes towards investments. And the key thing to remember about your savings and investments is that it should both be automatic. That means when money hits your checking account, you should set up automatic transfers to your savings and investment accounts, so that way you don't have to manually move your money, because trust me, if you have to manually move your money, you're not gonna move it at all. With that $950 every month, you're gonna invest it in an index fund that follows the S&P 500. Personally, I like VOO or the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF. That's because index funds like these tend to give you an annual return of around 10.56%. Then finally, after your initial investment of $950 and following it up with $950 every month from your paycheck, over 7 years and an interest rate of 10%, you're gonna have a net worth of around $110,000.
