I watched "Inside the Manosphere" (& you should too)
Here are some of my top takeaways:
A world of contradiction
Manosphere influencers don't believe in depression, so if you fail it's your own fault. Simultaneously if you're doing everything they tell you to & you still fail it's bc shady people are preventing you from getting there.
This is how these influencers get you to believe in conspiracy, to explain the contradiction
How blatant the "I don't believe in anything" content farming is
HSTikkyTokky admits to not caring about the antisemitism he spews, he just does it for content farming. Not 30 minutes later he's asking Thoreux about Israel. The amount some of these men know they're grifting is comical
The toxic clout-chasing can at times be mutual
Something surprising to me that's only briefly mentioned is how many models & of girls happily appear aside these influencers & don't care what they think about them bc it gets them more engagement
Why do so many girls appear on podcasts where they're just gonna get bullied? Bc for some of them, they know they could go viral and make bank so it's worth the bs they have to put up with, even if it helps these men spready misogynistic ideas
The hope manosphere influencers create
While their content is incredibly toxic, abusive, & misogynistic, for many men watching their videos the content is a light in a very dark tunnel. One man talks about how it helped him when he was homeless, as it made his depression something he could solve rather than something he had to live with
Theroux also doesn't shy away from the fact that while this may seem positive, these influencers take that and use it to scam these man out of tons of money through classes & crypto
Theroux got the last laugh
After the viral "Is Israel committing genocide" clip, Thoreux steps away & discusses it. What I didn't expect was him to then come back with a clip in which TikkyTokky, on stream, gets bossed around by his mother like a 12-year old child
For all these men's talk about being "alpha", in the end he shows them to just be little brats in grown bodies
