there's a person going around right now asking when nerds became so conservative. I can't find the original video. Well I've seen a lot of really interesting uh takes on this one thing I wanna point out that I haven't seen yet is that nerd culture really hasn't changed all that much and that's why it is so conservative. It's just that people can't hide anymore. A lot of people assume that nerds as a community are incredibly progressive because a lot of nerdy content focuses on things like fighting fascists and imperialists and authoritarians standing up for marginalized communities, right? The entire comic book industry is so heavily progressive, it just makes sense. However, something to understand specifically about that kind of male loneliness side of inner communities that they are very selective on what they see and always have been. Best example of this is the infamous Princess Leia's slave outfit. Sure the scene centers around Jabba the Hutt forcing her into that outfit, for which she strangles him, but for many in the nerd community, all they see is the image of her in that outfit as a sex symbol. Conservative creators are definitely taking advantage of lonely men, but let's not pretend the calls are coming from inside the house here. The nerd community still is somewhat to blame.
