You just got waitlisted at your dream school and you don't know if you should hold on to hope or move on. Here's exactly what to do. First, you need to understand what a waitlist actually means. It means you are qualified but they ran out of spots. Every year students get off waitlists and every year students waste the opportunity by doing nothing. Don't be the second one. Step 1, accept your spot on the waitlist immediately. This sounds obvious but a lot of students don't do it. Some schools require you to opt in or you're automatically removed. Go to your portal right now and confirm you want to stay on the list. Step 2, send a letter of continued interest within 48 hours. This is the most important thing you can do. Here's what to include. First, say this is still your top choice school and you will absolutely attend if admitted. Second, update them on anything new since you applied. New grades, new awards, new leadership roles. Third, be specific about why this school, not generic great programs. Mention opportunities that only exist there.
