college is NOT highschool

college is not highschool and I wish someone had prepared me on how different it actually is. If you think you can just show up and coast like you did before, you're about to get a reality check. Here's what nobody tells you. Reality number one, nobody cares if you don't show up. In high school, teachers call your parents if you're absent. College, professors don't even know your name. You can skip every class and nobody will stop you. But you may fail and it's nobody's fault but yours. Reality number two, your study habits in high school may not work. In high school, study the night before and get A's. In college, one exam covers six weeks of material. If you're not studying consistently throughout the semester, it'll be really hard to cram all the information in just a day. Reality number three, nobody reminds you of anything. In high school, teachers remind you about assignments around 10 times. In college, assignments mentioned once in a 300% lecture. Miss it, that becomes a zero. You need to become your own personal assistant. Reality number four, the social dynamics may be completely different. In college, there's 40,000 students. You can literally be whoever you want to be.
