salary progression (minimum wage to six figures) a 22 year old software engineer. I'm someone who highly values salary transparency, so I'll be sharing the raw numbers. So full disclaimer if that kind of stuff makes you uncomfortable, just keep scrolling. First job was 2021-2022: construction laborer $18 / hr. Despite being pure physical labour, it is one of and enjoyable jobs I've ever had. Sophomore year I worked as an IT intern at my university making $16 an hour. Sophomore summer I joined a startup as a software engineering intern making $25 an hour. 2023-2024: research intern @ GTRI $25 / hr. I was flown across the country for a software engineering internship at a satellite company. This internship I made $39 an hour. However, I also received the $10,000 housing stipend for the summer and a $4,000 relocation bonus. 2024-2025: SWE intern @ satellite company $39 / hr. I continued this internship throughout my senior year making $39 an hour remotely. 2025: SWE @ satellite company $119,000 $10,000 sign on bonus. Post grad I accepted a return offer to the same company for a salary of 119,000 dollars with a $10,000 sign on bonus. 2026: SWE @ satellite company $125,000. At the end of this last cost of living raise, I make roughly $125,000 a year. Depending on your experience, a lot of not. But I wanted to share my progression regardless to help anyone trying to follow a similar path. Thanks so much for watching! you tomorrow!
