If you wanna win a hackathon in 2026, your project really only needs this one thing. My credibility on the subject is that I've won or placed at every single hackathon I've ever attended, winning thousands at universities like Harvard and SSU. If there's one thing I've learned at these events, there is one type of project that will always win some sort of prize money. It has nothing to do with a particular tech stack or programming language, or software at all. To place in any hackathon, some kind of hardware into your project. Building amazing software is cool, but humans just love to see and touch physical tech. And I found that incorporating hardware in some way automatically gets a leg up. Let me be clear, I am not an embedded systems or robotics guy. My experience comes strictly from competing against these individuals. And let me tell you, I see a team walking into some sort of circuit board or Raspberry Pi, it takes a lot for me not to throw in the towel right then and there.
