Google just released a new AI model that could run directly on your laptop or even your phone. They released a model called Gemma 4 and it shows where AI might be heading next. Right now, most powerful AIs run in massive data centres. When you use ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, your request goes to huge GPU clusters somewhere in the cloud. But Gemma 4 is different. Google designed it so that developers can run powerful AI directly on their own hardware, your laptop, workstation or even your mobile device. The model family comes in multiple sizes so it can scale from small devices all the way up to data centres. And this is not just a toy model either. Google says it's designed for advanced reasoning, coding tasks and AI agents. Which means developers could build apps where AI runs locally on your device instead of in the cloud. And that's a big shift because if powerful AI starts running locally, then you don't need to send your data to company servers. It can be faster, cheaper and more private. And if this trend continues, the future of AI might not just live in massive data centres, it might live on the device in your pocket.
