So apparently Apple is planning something big for a future version of iOS where they are not trying to build the best AI model themselves, but they are turning Siri into the front door for every AI model. Think about this right now. If you want to use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity, you have to open their apps. But with this new system, you can install those apps, toggle them on in settings, and suddenly Siri becomes the interface for all of them. You ask Siri something and it can route that request to whichever AI service you choose. Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, all through Siri. Which means Apple isn't trying to win the AI model race. Instead, they're turning the iPhone into an AI marketplace. And remember, there are over 2.5 billion Apple devices. So now every AI company on earth is competing for a spot on those phones and Apple is taking their usual 30% cut from subscriptions through the App Store. Because of this, they don't need massive data centres training trillion parameter models in tens of billions of compute, just distribution. It's basically the same strategy they used with the App Store, but for AI. And here's the even crazier part. Some analysts think that in a few years the iPhone might actually be powerful enough to run smaller versions of these frontier models directly on the device. No cloud, no servers, just AI running locally on your phone. Which would mean Apple controls the gateway to AI for billions of people. So instead of winning the AI race, Apple might have just figured out a way to tax everyone who does.
