If you see this question on the May SHT, you should be able to solve it in literally 30 seconds because it is super simple as long as you know how to use Desmo. We're given that a is greater than one and then we're given these two equations and we need to find X. All we need to do is realize that if we have two equations here with constants that we are trying to find, we need to use a bracketted regression. Basically, we go into Desmo and write two brackets and then a squiggle line in between them. And then in the left bracket we're going to just put the left side of each equation. So a to the third power comma a to the X1, you put X1 because we're using regression here. And then b squared comma b to the 9. Now, it says here that a is greater than 1, so I'm going to make it just some number that's greater than 1, let's make it two. And we see here that X is this value. But the rms is not zero and it needs to be. So if I just move this around until it is super, super small. This is a very small number. And X stops moving around, we get that it is 13.5.
