A 10-STEP GUIDE TO CLAUDE
How to
Master
Claude
in One Week
SWIPE TO LEARN →
STEP 1
Download the
Desktop App
Go to claude.com/download - not the website, the actual app
Mac or Windows only - no mobile, no web version for full features
Cowork only runs inside the desktop app - no app = no Cowork
Pro account: $20/mo (or $17/mo billed annually)
STEP 2
These Are The
Modes to use
CHAT
Chat
Quick questions. Nothing serious.
CHAT
Projects
Team use & recurring deliverables.
CHAT
Cowork
Solo deep work with actual files.
</> Code
Developers only --- Skip if not dev.
For real work? Use Cowork. Chat is the ChatGPT version --- forget it.
STEP 3
Build Your
4 Folders
Create a parent folder: "Claude-Cowork" with 4 subfolders.
About Me
Your identity & writing rules
Projects
One subfolder per live project
Templates
Your best past work as reusable structure
Claude Outputs
The ONLY folder Claude writes to
STEP 4
Write Your
2 Core Files
These two files do more than 50 prompts combined.
about-me.md
Who you are, What you do, Your current priorities, What matters now.
about-me.md
Every phrase Claude must NEVER use. Ever. Think: "boundaries", "delve", "it's worth noting".
One great md file beats 50 random uploads.
Be intentional. Don't dump everything.
STEP 5
Stop Writing
Prompts
Use one master template instead --- Loaded with your context every time
Your prompt template reads full ABOUT ME before every task
On Mac: use Text Shortcut - type /prompt to expand it anywhere
Name your work files with a clear convention: project_sent_v1.ext
Write only to CLAUDE OUTPUTS - everything else stays read-only
STEP 6
Let Claude
Prompt You
Flip the script. Claude asks the questions --- You click answers.
Multi-select descriptions - click options, not type paragraphs
Multi-select & drag-to-rank - prioritize what matters most
You click answers in under a minute - Claude plans, you approve, it executes
"We're getting sidetracked... Generate an AskUserQuest..." - This is what good AI-assisted planning feels like.
STEP 7
Install
One Plugin
Browse plugins to add a sidebar - pick one that matches your workflow.
Marketing
/marketing:draft-content
Data
CSV + dashboard _ /date:explore
Legal
Contract review in your sidebar
Start with one. Don't overwhelm yourself - master it first, then expand.
STEP 8
Connect
Your Tools
Settings → Connectors → Browse → Add.
Connectors = Claude acts inside your apps
Plugins = you do the work (Claude assists)
Claude can search your Slack, pull from your Docs, reference your Notion mid-task
Connect Google, Notion, Slack - Claude becomes a co-worker who actually knows your stack.
STEP 9
Build One Project
for Your Team
Stop using Claude alone. Multiply its value across your team.
Create a shared Project - set global instructions that everyone benefits from
Include a brief + drafts + references subfolder per live project
Claude now works for your whole team - not just you
One well-structured project turns Claude from a personal tool into a team multiplier.
STEP 10
Schedule Your
First Automated
Task
Use the /schedule plugin to set recurring Cowork tasks
Write your Cowork prompt in full - Claude runs it before you wake up
Cowork runs without you - you wake up to a briefing doc
Thats it.
Claude works while you sleep.
