Amazon literally hired me as a safeway engineer when I was 19 years old. And no, I had not been coding since I was eight. I had been coding for one year. I went into college pre-med and then immediately did that pre-med to CS pipeline right away. And I had one project from one of my CS classes that I just plopped on my resume. And in the end I got that internship and I worked there full-time now. So, here's what I did. The first thing I did when I got the online assessment was I started grinding Lean Code but specifically the Lean Code 150. I did not even care about attempting the problem because honestly, I did not know how to solve any of them and I went straight into the solution. Then I would redo the question a million times with a few days in between to make sure I actually learn the problem because I used to gas light myself that I knew how to solve it when I honestly didn't know. Next, I mock interviewed. I grabbed some friends or I even talked to a wall and I realized explaining my thought process was harder than I thought it would be. So I would practice saying my answers out loud and record it then rewatch it back right after. Which in the moment felt so cringe to do and to watch myself, but the difference between the first video and the last video is drastic. And they behave Oh my god, be tell me about yourself. sounds easy to do because I am me, I should be able to talk about myself. But I'm going to save you the time. Just take out a Google Doc and write out your answers to the most popular behavioral questions that they ask you. You tell me about yourself, why this company, your hardest project, to time you worked on a team. And have someone look at your answers or even ask Gemini to look at your answers because I used to have behavioral blindness where I thought my answers were good and then I listened to one of my friends in a mock interview and I realized like my answers sucked. But during the interview, don't have a Google Doc out and actually read from something because you will sound like a robot. The most important part is to memorize bullet points. Do not memorize your whole thing because it will not come out that way in the interview. But this is what I would do to get hired again.
