College Kids Screw Themselves Using Models

Computer science college kids are screwing themselves by using AI models doing their schoolwork and I was listening to an NYU professor interview and she was saying that they've even coined a term calling it the junior year wall because freshman and sophomore year students are using these models to pretty much do all of their work and all their coursework so that by the time they get to junior year when the coursework is too challenging for these models to do it they hit a wall and they have no idea what they're doing because they didn't learn any of the fundamental skills they have no idea how to do problem solving or critical thinking because they pretty much outsourced all of their thinking to models. So if you're in college how do you prevent doing something like this or getting caught in this? Well the good news is that the answer is very simple. The thing is don't use it. I think that college should be a place where AI is used the absolute least amount because in college it's not just about learning the strategies or the skills. What's a node? What's a linked list? What are data structures? It's deeper than that. It's teaching you fundamental skills on how to solve problems on a deep level. It's teaching you the basics of how to look at a problem and how do you break it apart and when you're using AI to basically solve these problems for you you're not internalizing that skill and you're not learning it. So if you're in college I beg you do not use AI models even though it is the easy button but the hardest thing that you're going to have to go through is developing the habit to not lean in to using these models as the easy button but instead force yourself to sit down and struggle and think because I know it's hard I know it's challenging but that's the point but the more that you do it the more that you will train your brain and your ability to actually look at problems and start to enjoy the process of solving hard problems.
