Make Extra Cash As A SWE Without A SaaS

I think one of the best ways for you to make extra cash as a software engineer, especially right now, is not building a SaaS or building some sort of like B2B SaaS or B2C SaaS or, you know, phone app because everyone's pushing like phone apps to the App Store, especially now with like AI coding agents and stuff. The real way to make some good money is taking your knowledge as a software engineer and your understanding for where the limitations of AI and things that are really worth automating and things like systems where you can provide for certain people and any industry and helping them automate ways to either make money or save money within their business. And I know what you're saying, hearing this, you're saying that it sounds boring, that it doesn't sound fun, that it doesn't sound interesting. And honestly, that's the point. If you truly want to make extra cash and you want to build a business on the side where you can use your skills and make money, this is a fantastic way to do it. Can you build a B2B or B2C SaaS that makes money? Yes. But it takes a significant amount of time and investment and just effort to go into it compared to building a service where you can help people realize gains extremely fast. And either that's saving money or making money or saving time or making money or saving time in some way shape or form. And I think that I have drastically realized this as I start speaking with more and more service businesses and just kind of like your typical average day-to-day businesses. They know that this solution exists, but they just don't know how to use it and using it in a way that immediately makes sense to them, to where they're either saving or making money, it's very attractive to them because now they understand it. You can't just start talking to these guys about like Anthropic or Claude or using these agents or different things because they have no fucking idea. But you have a great opportunity. And yes, that means you're not going to be coding day in and day out. But you can be a fantastic way for you to make some extra cash.
