Hook

Okay fine, I will tell you the secret to having a stressful job and not being stressed. This is part four of all the weird ways that I have learned to manage my cortisol and not let the corporate air make me ugly. This one is kind of twisted and unhinged, but it will work for the right person. Basically, when things get really stressful at work, I just tell myself that I am an actress in a show, and I deliver the performance that I think the other person wants for me. For example, sometimes you might have a boss that wants to see the urgency, stress, and anxiety because that is how they'll know you're taking things seriously. So, I deliver that urgency, that stress. If I hear their footsteps coming down the hall, suddenly I'm like, sometimes you have a boss that wants you to be really calm, cool, collected, walk into a room with a plan to save the world. I'll walk in with that plan, chin up, so confident. And the key is just to remind myself that this is a performance, I'm cosplaying right now, this is not real. And when I tell myself it's not real, it doesn't affect my nervous system, it doesn't get me super stressed, and I'm able to just brush it off at the end of the day. Like I said, twisted, but will work for more people than you think.
