All of tech Twitter was freaking out today because the biggest free agent in AI just picks team. If you don't have 12 hours of screen time. Here's what they're talking about. Andre Karpathy. He cofounded opening AI, built Tesla's self driving AI. He invented the term vibecoding, one of his finest achievements. He has millions of followers. He puts the AI in brains, and he's one of the most respected minds in the entire field. This is a big deal, him joining Anthropic. He's also been independent for over a year. He could have gone anywhere. Back to open AI, back to Tesla. But Andre is now a giant. So he built his own lab, and then he looked at every option AI, and he chose Anthropic. Today he announced it. Anthropic got massive aura and one of the best brains in the industry. So if AI labs are the kingdoms of battle, Dario just brought in the best general. You really need to understand a little more about Andre Carpop. You'd understand why this is a big deal. Here's his career arc. He's in the founding room at Open AI back in 2015, where it all happened. And then Musk personally pulled him out to run Tesla's self driving AI in 2017. He spent five years building the brain behind every Tesla autopilot system, the full self driving program, then left in 2022. He went back to opening eye for a year, left again in 2024 at this point so crazy amount of exits. You can just come and go as you please. Less at his level. Then he started an education company called Eureka Labs. When you're worth $100 million, you've already built self drive cars. Co founded the most famous AI lab on earth. You can just wake up and wanna dedicate your life to education. That's OK. Ever since then, he's really been a free agent. Every lab on the planet wanted him. He said no to all of them for a year and a half. Until today. Now, as of today, publicly he is at Anthropic. He's working on pre training, which is the most expensive and most important phase of building Claude. So instead of out spending everyone on compute, Anthropic is making a bet that it can use Claude to make Claude better. The job they gave Carpathy is just that, build the team that teaches AI to improve itself. They're taking a different strategy from opening eye, which is spending $200 billion to the end of the decade. And then Google just created a 5 billion dollar chip company with Blackstone. And thropic is focused more on out thinking competitors versus out spending them. And they're bringing in the big guns to do just that. Andres launching a team that uses Claude itself to speed up the research process. Considering that Anthropic's latest model, mythos, became so good that it's causing a national security code red, the job is very important. It kind of created a monster of itself. So there's no better time than now to bring in the ultimate Dragon trainer. I'm not gonna talk about salary. I would if I could, but I don't know the details. However, Anthropic is valued at $900 billion, and they're about to IPO. Equity grants at the stage are worth a big chunk of change immediately, not just kind of the abstract. Maybe someday. Of other startups. So if carpal got even point o one % of the company, that's 90 million. At the current valuation, and at his caliber, almost certainly got more than that. Migration from other labs toward Anthropic is becoming a pattern. Obviously, Dario and Daniela Amo Day left opening eye to found Anthropic. Both a bunch of other opening eye employees originally, and overtime, we've also seen leaders from X AI join Anthropic. Who's worked at three of four of the biggest players, he looked at the whole board as a free man and chose Anthropic. It's like they're kd joining the Warriors moment. Your move, Sam.
