002 One thing I’m trying to do with these videos is slow automation learning back down to the fundamentals. Because a lot of people jump straight into PLC programming before properly understanding what the signals actually mean. This latest video continues the topic of Normally Open and Normally Closed devices, but this time looking at sensors instead of switches. At first glance, NO and NC can seem incredibly basic. But these concepts appear everywhere within industrial control systems. Switches. Inductive sensors. Photoelectric sensors. Relays. Contactors. Safety circuits. And eventually PLC ladder logic. If someone struggles with ladder logic later on, quite often the issue started much earlier with not fully understanding how inputs physically behave in the real world. What does “normal” actually mean? What happens when something is detected? What state is the signal in before activation? Why would you choose Normally Closed instead of Normally Open? These are the foundations that good fault finding and good automation design are built upon. That’s why I’m spending time creating simple examples first instead of jumping immediately into complicated PLC code.
