If I'm a 9-to-5 employee and I know nothing about investing, this is how I would build my stock portfolio. A lot of people overcomplicate this, but it doesn't need to be complicated. For the base, I would make sure that my foundation is based off of the S&P 500 index fund. Think of things like VOO, SPY, SPLG. Once I have 60% in the base, then I can jump into the tech ETF, dividend, or the real estate. Think of ETFs like QQQM, SMH, SPMO. And I would only put 25% of my portfolio into here. Once I have these two down, then I can jump into individual stocks. Think of things like AAPL, AMZN, COST. And I would only put in here 10%. And lastly, once I have these three built out, I can jump into speculative or high risk stocks. Think of things like ABCL, ASTS. And I would only put in here 5%. And as you go up in ladder, you have a higher risk and less stability. And as you go down, there is more stability and less risk. And as always, the goal is to invest early and invest often.
