After 173 years, Halifax may no longer exist as a standalone bank brand after Lloyds Banking Group reportedly moves to merge it into Lloyds Bank. From July 1, customers reportedly won’t be able to open new Halifax accounts through the app or website, although existing customers would still keep the same account details and FSCS protection. Halifax branches have already been shutting across the UK, and it comes as TSB is also expected to disappear from high streets following Santander’s takeover. The UK banking landscape is changing fast. Physical branches and even iconic bank names are slowly vanishing. 🏦📉
