According to new research about Neurodiversity At Work from @understoodorg and the Harris Poll, 78% of neurodivergent employees are using Al at work. That's higher than their neurotypical peers. It's also giving them more confidence in applying for jobs and mitigating the parts of their jobs they don't enjoy. 00 But other research shows that neurodivergent people are more likely to hold serious ethical concerns about it compared to non-neurodivergent people. Most people read that as a contradiction... but I don't. The skepticism and the use are the same thing expressing itself two different ways: many neurodivergent people evaluate the system before they evaluate the tool ....but we've also lived in a world that wasn't designed for our minds. And Al can be an incredibly useful accessibility tool to mitigate those challenges. The issue is that Al isn't solving the actual problem. A workplace that works for neurodivergent people still requires clear written communication by default, flexibility that isn't a favor, pre-reads so processing differences don't become performance gaps, and managers who understand that different doesn't mean less capable. Al isn't the problem. How it gets deployed as an uncontained tool is. Is Al making workplaces more accessible or just making inaccessible workplaces more tolerable? I think the answer depends entirely on whether it's being used as a specific tool or a replacement for doing the actual work of building spaces where everyone has the opportunity to flourish.
