Things I wished someone forced me to understand at 18. 1: No one is coming to save you. No one is coming to save you, not your parents, not the government, not your job, not your boss. The sooner you realize that life is in your hands is when everything starts to change. 2: Time is your biggest advantage. The sooner you start building skills, learning something, investing, the easier life becomes later. 3: Your friend group matters. If your friend group is wasting money, settling for average, not taking responsibility, and just doing dumb shit overall, cut them all off. Because if you hang around five losers, you'll become a loser. If you hang around five winners, you'll become a winner. It's been like this since the dawn of time. 4: You don't need to be rich to start investing. Get that out of your head. Start investing, you could even start with a dollar. A dollar, a dollar still compounds over time. Invest in things like the S&P 500, VOO. These stocks grow about 10% a year. And finally, 5: Stop trying to look rich. Looking rich and being rich are two completely different things. People try to look rich, designer clothes, expensive cars, all this stuff, but they're really just in a whole lot of debt. None of that crap really matters if you're broke behind the scenes. Start building real wealth, start investing, start saving your money, and let your money work for you, not against you.
