RIP Small Artists. RIP SoundCloud. RIP Hypeddit. DJs what are we doing now? Crisis situation in DJ world. It's actually one of the darkest days in the DJ world in a long time, especially for the remix and editing community. R.I.P. small artists, R.I.P. Hypeddit. If you haven't seen the news, this is the email they sent earlier today or yesterday night, I can't remember. Try to be so nonchalant about it too, but the ramifications that it's going to have, it's going to be serious. It was basically the most important feature that they offered. I think many of us overlooked that email when we got it, but basically what's going down is they removed the SoundCloud API integration with Hypeddit. So what that means in layman's terms is that you cannot, like, you're not forcing anyone to do any of the SoundCloud stuff for a free download gate. So no one has to follow you anymore, no one has to comment, no one has to like your track, no one has to repost, no one has to do anything. And yeah, to the average person that's probably not going to sound like a big deal at all, but it is. Because that gate was like, is probably, I think the only mandatory one outside of, like, the Spotify one. All the other ones are optional too. The Instagram, the YouTube, TikTok, all of them are completely optional. You can skip them, just like you can do with SoundCloud now. And I never did the optional ones, I always skipped them. I've gone through how it works now. No, no one's, no one's going to use it. No one's going to follow you, no one's going to comment, no one's going to do anything. They made it such a pain in the ass now. I don't think people understand the SoundCloud step in the download gate accumulated for probably 80% of a song's livelihood, its circulation, its boost in the algorithm, the comments, reposts, what it sees and how it gets in the eyes of other people. That was how the remixers and editors thrived on on SoundCloud. And yes, there are alternatives. I have been looking. I know ToneDen is probably the best alternative, but there are limited features. I know ToneDen doesn't make you, doesn't make you write comments, and the reposts are optional. The only one that they can still do on then is the follow, which I guess is better than nothing. But the issue is that the paid plan to get multiple steps is $50 a month on ToneDen, which is ridiculous compared to Hypeddit. I think Hypeddit is like 200 for a whole year subscription. So I'm calling the DJ community now to find an alternative or another way, maybe think outside of the box of kind of way how we're going to do this. I don't want to gatekeep everything, you know, I like giving away things for free, you know, in turn, it was just a, a repost and a comment to boost it up in the algorithm, get in eyes to other people too so they could get it for free also. And this hurts smaller artists the most. Like, you know, you like me, I have, you know, 30 some thousand followers, like I, I have a little bit of a fan base, but some guys that are just starting off, like it's going to be so much harder now. You're going to have to rely on the marketing aspect way more than you already are supposed to. My conspiracy theory is this was a move done between SoundCloud and Hypeddit to just start boost. Everyone's going to want to try to use, pay for ads now so they get their songs boosted up and in ears of people. This is without a doubt my 9/11. This is definitely remix culture 9/11. Um, this is, this is a big deal.
