If you and your partner are smart, ambitious people who wanna build real wealth together, you need one steady career and one moonshot. I'm gonna give you five examples. I learned this from the book Psychology of Money, which talks about how the skill of MAKING MONEY =/= INVESTING MONEY is a completely different skill from growing and investing money. So the best couples aren't doubling up, they're covering both sides. It's like having a diversified portfolio. So the first example, startup employee and corporate 9-5. One person takes a bunch of bets on equity at different startups. The other has the W2, the benefits, the stability. If the startup hits, you both win big. If it doesn't, you're not panicking about me making rent. The second one, one entrepreneur and one investor. This is lowkey me and my boyfriend. I'm always gonna be the kind of person with something going on the side thinking about the next business idea, whereas my boyfriend is the person who can explain what a mega backdoor Roth IRA is and actually knows where to put the money once we make it. Number three, real estate professional and high-income W2. This one is a huge tax hack. If one partner works 750 hours in real estate and qualifies as a real estate professional, you can use these losses to offset your W2 income. Number four, content creator and stable career. One person is building an audience similar to an entrepreneur that has uncapped upside, but takes time to build and is unpredictable. The other person keeps things running while that compounds. Number five, high-commission sales and salaried employee. One person has uncapped earning potential tied to performance. The other one has the predictable paycheck. Good months are amazing. Bad months are fine. So these are all different examples, but it's the same formula every time. You need one person who swings for the fences to create wealth, and another person who protects and grows that wealth.
