A hill that I will die on is that the most successful people in their careers are not paying $250,000 and taking two years out of working to get an MBA. This is for anyone who's thinking of applying or feeling FOMO because they never got the degree. Hear me out as someone with a Wharton MBA because I'm not saying that you shouldn't get one. An MBA has a very high floor, but not a very high ceiling of achievement. It's about bankers, consultants, people in big tech startups. I love my friends from business school and they're all ambitious, but none of us went to get the degree because we knew exactly what we were going to do with our careers and everything was going great. We went because we wanted to change our careers or grow our careers when they felt stagnant. The people at the pinnacle of their success in their 20s and 30s are not in business school. If your company is taking off, you know exactly what you're building, you're not going to put your career on pause for two years. And business school is exactly that. It's a place that helps you pivot and grow very expensive, want of course, but it gives you access to a network, credentials, recruiting to get to the next step when you're not otherwise getting there yourself already. So many people who are thinking of going to business school or applying have this idea in their head that their peers are going to be the most accomplished or they'll miss out if they don't go. And that is not the case. So if you're about to start business school, be clear about what you want those two years to change and don't be scared of your peers.
