Ever wondered what an accessible cabin is like on a modern cruise ship? Here's a look around my accessible balcony cabin on @PAndOCruises Arvia. One thing I really liked about this cabin was that it felt designed for disabled and non-disabled people to comfortably share the same space. Features like the fold-down shower bench, adjustable sink and pull-down wardrobe rail could all be adapted to suit different users, rather than making the room work for just one person. Starting with the bathroom, there was plenty of space to manoeuvre a wheelchair, and the toiletries were positioned at an accessible height, which is a small detail but one that's often overlooked. It wasn't perfect though. The shower head and towels were mounted a little too high for me to reach independently, although that could easily be fixed if staff placed them differently. The automatic doors were one of my favourite features. The cabin, bathroom and balcony doors could all be opened automatically, making it much easier to move around independently. Although fair warning, the bathroom door was a little enthusiastic about staying open, so privacy required some patience. We were on our honeymoon so it wasn't exactly a deal-breaker, but it could be awkward if you're sharing with a friend, family member or carer. The bedroom felt spacious and practical, with room to manoeuvre, space under the bed for a hoist if needed, plenty of storage, a mini fridge, and plugs close to the bed. The only thing I'd change is having the life jackets stored lower for easier access. And finally, the balcony. Compared to the accessible cabin we stayed in on Britannia last year, this balcony felt much larger and more usable, and was probably my favourite part of the whole cabin. Overall, this is one of the better accessible cruise cabins I've stayed in. It's not perfect, but there were lots of thoughtful accessibility features built into the design. Would you stay in a cabin like this? What would make it accessible for you? Let me know in the comments. #AccessibleTravel #CruiseAccessibility #WheelchairTravel
