What Mobility aids did I actually used at my wedding?! A few months before my wedding, I asked you which mobility aids I should use on the big day. And of course, answer turned out to be more than one. One thing I always say is that different mobility aids have different jobs, and my wedding day was no exception. For the ceremony, photos and some of the key moments, I used my XSTO M4 powerchair. One of the reasons I chose it was because it can raise and lower, which meant I could be closer to eye level with Ian during parts of the day. For the wedding breakfast and dancing, I switched to my manual wheelchair, Mags. She's lighter, easier to manoeuvre in crowded spaces, and definitely my favourite dance floor chair. She is a custom manual chair so is also more comfortable for me to sit in for longer periods. As the evening went on and my energy started to dip, I switched back to the XSTO so I could keep celebrating without completely exhausting myself. One thing I found really interesting was how many people encouraged me to walk down the aisle. But for me, mobility aids aren't something to overcome for special occasions. They're tools that help me participate in them. They're part of my authentic self. Using mobility aids throughout the day meant I could focus on marrying Ian, spending time with our guests and actually enjoying our wedding, rather than worrying about pain levels or how far I had to walk. And honestly, I wouldn't change a thing. Which mobility aid would you have guessed I used most on the day? Let me know in the comments!
