If you identify as a corporate hottie, come here. I need to speak. 5 rules for the corporate hottie. Here are five things that a corporate hottie never does at work. And I know, I know, the rules are different for us. Number one, no hedging. Look at the most senior people in your organization. They never start a sentence with I think, I could, I please, just eliminate that language from your vocabulary. It undermines your seniority. Number two, route problems. People vent. Junior level people vent. But senior level folks, we ask the question, is my presence needed and valuable in this meeting? If the answer is no, we send a delegate. This one you can argue with me a little bit. Number four, pay transparency. But careful who you tell. I believe in pay transparency. I don't believe in telling everyone your pay. Your number is your leverage. If everyone knows it, you lose your leverage. Oftentimes, we share our compensation without context. And that becomes someone else's floor or ceiling. And it's not always helpful. And lastly, if you tell the wrong person, it can create resentment. They will pity you if you don't make enough, or they will resent you if you make too much. So once again, I believe in transparency, but be judicious on who, what, and why you share. No. And importantly, girls, never confuse their identity with their job. Corporate is your funding, not your identity. Your skills are your identity. The moment you begin to overalign with a job, that is when you lose all your leverage.
