If you're the corporate celebrity, meaning you have a bunch of eyes on you. Usually if you're well-dressed, really good looking, only woman, only woman of color. You are the corporate celebrity. The biggest skill that you can learn is the art of slow and silence. Oftentimes, because we feel so many eyeballs on us on every single meeting, every time we walk into a room, we rush to fill that space, we rush to placate people, we rush to speak or be really friendly or fill silence. However, the mark of a senior leader, someone who takes their time and allows silence to fall. Also, my corporate hotties, my corporate celebrities know this. When you have a lot of eyeballs on you, people are going to try you publicly. Someone is going to do a comment, a dig, a jab in a public forum and because you're uncomfortable with all the eyes on you, because you know you're constantly being perceived, you're going to rush and try and fill in that silence. Stop doing that. You do not need to rescue them from the discomfort that they created. You have the currency of attention. Learn how to use it to your advantage.
