If I hear one more person say that this wasn't such a smart play because people don't actually know that this is the Levi's logo when it's covered up, that's not the point. This wasn't marketing for people seeing it in the stadium. It was a prop for a social media stunt. And that's why it didn't blow up until Levi's posted a hilarious reel and changed their profile icon. That was the marketing and it all comes with brand context. And that's why we're talking about Levi's right now and not any of the other dozens of brands who had to cover up their logos at stadiums. Because Levi's created a story, a moment, and gave people something for people to root for. And so sure, you can absolutely talk about things like unaided brand awareness or logo recognition in relation to this stunt, but you can't use it as a way to judge the validity or efficacy of it because this was easily and the smartest and most effective reactive brand moment of the World Cup so far. And if you like talking about marketing stunts like this and understanding why they work, follow along for more.
