Hook

I just saw a video of a girl who went to the hive in Upland, California. I don't even know where this is. I'm literally in New York City. But this video pissed me off because the instructor was so mean to this girl who's clearly, it's her first time going. And there was another girl next to her. It was her first time going. As a Pilates instructor of two years and a bar instructor before that for a year and a half, I've worked at a PT clinic. I've done a lot in the fitness field. Just because you can say a workout out loud does not mean you can be a fitness instructor. Does not matter if you're having a bad day. Does not matter whatever is going on in your life because right now you're clocked in. What you do affects the person that's in there. If this client had low self-esteem, you yell at her and she never goes back again because you were mean. I get people in my class all the time and they're beginners and, yes, they don't understand what I'm saying all the time. I'll have to repeat it five times. But you have to be encouraging when you're speaking to someone who's, it's their first time, because it's awkward, it's embarrassing, it's vulnerable. Like, you cannot be mean. And this isn't like a personality trait that you can learn. You're either born with it or not. You're either a compassionate and empathetic person or you're not. And if you are not a patient person, try not to be a fitness instructor.
