Prime Day is hours away, but the best deals may already be here. Major retailers are kicking off summer with some huge savings. Companies like Amazon, Walmart and Target are going to be having some of their lowest prices of the entire year this week. But what kinds of things should you buy and what should you skip? We have with us NBC News Select reporter Zoe Malin with tips. Zoe, always good to see you. So Amazon Prime Day usually in July. This is the second time they're doing it in June. Yes. Kicks off tomorrow. So what are the items that will be seeing the biggest discounts? Yes. So one of the biggest reasons that Amazon hosts Prime Day is to sell its own products. So you really want to look at any of the brands Amazon owns, especially devices, such as Echo Dots. Kindles are a big one. Fire soundbars, I remember you were looking for a soundbar. That will be on sale. Also, tech in general is a great discount category right now, so headphones, speakers, even some of those smart home devices, like those doorbells are big. Also, anything for your kitchen that ends up on your counter, like those toasters, those blenders, or any of those home appliances that end up on the floor like your floor washers, your vacuums, and your air purifiers. We also really recommend looking at any of those summer related deals right now. Like you said, since it's in June, maybe you want to buy an inflatable pool or some bathing suits that you can enjoy the entire season. And then one of the biggest and best Prime Day categories is home essentials and groceries. Everybody needs them. You're always going to want to stock up on them, so you might as well buy them on sale. I recommend taking out your notes app, walking around your home, and just write a list of everything you're running out of: paper towels, pet food. All of that will be on sale. Dish washing detergent. Exactly. It's also amazing just how big of a shopping event this middle of the summer, four day period has been we were talking about that. So those are the products you should be looking out for. Very appliance heavy. What products would you hold off on? Yes. So what I would hold off on are those bigger appliances, mattresses, barbecues, anything that you want to buy during July 4th, which is only about a week away? Right. You don't have to wait too long. We also recommend holding off on those TVs and video game consoles. You'll see much better deals during Black Friday and Cyber Monday and then back-to-school. A little bit of a tricky category because you will see some deals, but we tend to see better discounts as we move toward August. Plus, you'll have some tax free holidays later on this summer. So you might want to wait a little bit there too. Okay, as Amazon goes so do the other big retailers. What about Target? Yes. So Target is having a sale as well. It's exclusive to Target Circle members. But you can actually join for free. And their sales really run the gamut. One thing I love about the Target sales is that you can buy online, pick up in store. You don't need to be on shipping. You know it. No more soundbar buy for you. You're cut off at one. Real quickly. What about Walmart? So Walmart sale is great because it does not require a membership. So if you're someone that can't shop on Amazon, no Prime membership. Can't shop on Target. No Circle membership. This is for you. It's also the longest sale. It runs a little bit longer than both Target and Amazon, so if you forget anything, it's great. Plus, if you are a Walmart Plus member, you can get exclusive deals. Okay. That's good. Don't shade me, but I picked up some cute outfits from Walmart. I love that.
