THE FIRST THING DO IS JOIN A DESIGN CLUB. SO THESE CLUBS, YOU DON'T NEED EXPERIENCE TO JOIN THEM, BUT ONCE YOU'RE YOU'RE GONNA GET ACTUAL REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH OTHER ENGINEERS. JOIN ROCKET CLUB, FORMULA SAE/ GONNA GIVE YOU GREAT TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE TO PUT ON THE NEXT THING IS START LOOKING YOU WOULD LIKE TO WORK FOR WHAT THEY WANT IN AN INTERN. SKILLS DO THEY WANT FROM THEIR INTERNS, SOFTWARES DO THEY TO KNOW? LEARN ALL OF CAN GET CERTAIN CERTIFICATIONS THAT GIVE YOU AN UPPER HAND CAN BUILD A PROJECT THAT CATERS TO THE SKILLS THAT THESE COMPANIES WANT. IS TO JOIN AN INTRAMURAL SPORT: OR REALLY ANY I LIKE THIS BECAUSE IT'S PHYSICAL GIVE YOU SOME ACTIVITY. BUT LET'S SAY YOU JOIN CLUB FRISBEE, YOU JOIN CLUB FRISBEE, ABLE TO MEET SOMEONE WHOSE PARENT JUST HAPPENS TO BE HIGH UP AT THAT YOU WOULD LOVE TO INTERN FOR. BUILDING THESE TYPE ORGANIC CONNECTIONS WILL IN THE FUTURE. AND OF COURSE, GET A GOOD GPA, GO TO CAREER NETWORKING EVENTS. BUT WHEN YOU DO ALL OF YOU WERE GONNA HAVE MANY TECHNICAL EXPERIENCES THAT YOU CAN YOUR PORTFOLIO. SO MANY FRESHMEN DON'T DO ANYTHING OF COLLEGE, GO GET AN INTERNSHIP HAVE ANYTHING TO BECAUSE THEY HAVE ZERO TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE. AND THEY ALSO HAVEN'T FORMED ANY VALUABLE CONNECTIONS.

This is exactly do if I was starting engineering and wanted to set myself up for an internship next summer. Make sure to favorite this video so that you have a blueprint for next semester. The first thing I would do is join a design club. So these clubs, you don't need experience to join them, but once you're in them, you're gonna get actual real world experience working with other engineers. You can join Rocket Club, Formula SAE/Race Car, Concrete Canoe, Robotics, Solar Car. These are gonna give you great technical experience to put on your resume. The next thing that I would do is get involved in undergraduate research. You can literally just email professors whose research interests you at your university, and this will be really great to put on your resume. And really, all it takes for one professor to say, yeah, that I would do is start looking at companies you would like to work for and look at what they want in an intern. What sort of skills do they want from their interns, what softwares do they want to know? Learn all of this so that you can get certain certifications that give you an upper hand or that you can build a project that caters to the skills that these companies want. The next thing is to join an intramural sport, or really any club for that matter. I like this because it's physical, gives you some activity. But let's say you join club Frisbee, you are able to meet someone whose parent just happens to be high up at a company that you would love to intern for. Building these type of organic connections will pay off in the future. And of course, get a good GPA, go to career fairs, networking events. But when you do all of these things, you were gonna have many technical experiences that you can leverage in your portfolio. So many freshmen don't do anything their first semester of college, then subsequently don't have anything to put on their resume and are unable to land an internship because they have zero technical experience. And they also haven't formed any valuable connections.
