Last night I found myself stranded at 2:00 AM, 7% on my phone and £8 in my bank account on the wrong side of London because I fell asleep on a night bus. It taught me a lot about why everyone in the UK seems to hate the UK government because by some miracle I found myself a £20 note and I asked someone if they could order me an Uber in exchange. They said they didn't have Uber and they were the only safe looking person that I could find. So I was like, okay, right? I might die. So I saw a black cab. So I called them down and was like, hey, I have a £20 note. I know it costs like £50 to get where I need to go, but how far can you take me with £20 pounds? This kind man must have felt so bad for me and he was like, I'll take you all the way there, darling. We can't have you walking around the streets at this time. On the journey back to my accommodation, we were talking about politics. I'm a politics student at university. So he started telling me all of his opinions. As a politics student, I think the best way to actually learn about politics is just to talk to normal working people. He made it very clear that he hates the government and he said one of the reasons why he was so keen on helping me is because he knows how raised students. Expensive, rent's expensive, loans are too small, transport's unreliable. So students like me get stuck at 2 AM in the middle of London. As a taxi driver who speaks to hundreds of people a day, he gets the sense that recent government policies have made normal British people feel like they can't do anything unless they have a ton of money. He used to be proud to be British, which is why he collects classic old cars. Now he kind of hates the country, hence why he helped me get home for less than the price than he should have done to be doing so. So if Andy Burnham is watching this, you should speak to more taxi drivers and students, because they have a lot of opinions.
