CERN Shutting down?

CERN is pushing the boundaries of what we know about the universe. They're not shutting down. Here's what's happening. First off, CERN ain't closing. They're temporarily turning off the world's largest and most powerful particle accelerator. They call in the shutdown LS3. And it's basically a massive upgrade, not a shutdown. Imagine buying the world's fastest computer, then taking it apart because you figured out how to make it 10 times faster. That's essentially what they're doing. The biggest upgrades, they're something called the High-Luminosity LHC. Don't let the name fool you. It has nothing to do with light. It simply means that they're trying to make way more particle collisions happen. Search particle collisions. Think of it like this. If you wanted to understand how a watch works, you get to take it apart one time. You get to take apart millions of times. Notice in tiny details you've never seen before. That's the idea. More collisions, they create, the more information they collect. And the more information they collect, the better chance they have of discovering something completely new.
