How to handle an unsuccessful Code Blue

We lost a patient today. We resuscitated for a long period of time and we couldn't save this patient. And if you're just starting out as a physician, as a resident, you will have these cases. And a lot of nurses were crying after we debriefed. And one thing I like to do in all of my cardiac arrests and Code Blues, especially if it's unsuccessful, that we have a moment of silence to honour the human, the person in front of us. And sometimes we get all the medicine right, we learn all the, the right things, the right interventions, the procedures, medications, everything we need to be, to be good doctors. But first and foremost, we're humans. And sometimes we forget that, especially in a Code Blue, especially one that you're running for a long period of time, 30, 40, 60 minutes, sometimes based on the situation. And today it was long and it was heavy and the family was there. Um, they were crying, violent cries. And it really affects you as a human. And sometimes you need to honour that and take one minute at least of silence so you can acknowledge everyone's efforts and acknowledge that someone, someone's loved one and a human being has passed.
