Wimbledon's marketing team deserves a raise, and I'm gonna break down why. Their viral 'Overheard' series is back. Loved by many, where they leak comedic reactions from the audience in the tennis court. At two o'clock, the British banter, the gossip. Instead of just posting generic cut downs of the tennis match, like every other news outlet, they're making you feel like an eavesdropper. It taps into our human curiosity because the content feels 'fly on the wall', reminiscent of the TV show 'Gogglebox'. He must be pushing 40 now right? This is a consistent, ownable format they bring back year on year. Now parodied by creators, good to see minor roles. This viral content format is proof that sometimes you seen the reaction to an event or product is the most content worthy part. Oh, well. Look at those comments. Notice how they're not showing you the product, i.e. the match, different level tennis. Because the mystery is the hook. But this is part of a wider shift in spectator content from brands. What have I just seen in Tesco? You'll notice the Snapchat hook being used in content. Friend's going on at my gym? How I get those POV shots. POV shots on smart glasses, all designed to feel sneakily filmed. Have you noticed this shift on your feed? Yeah.
