Here are the rules for a proper traditional Portuguese restaurant. Coming from a Portuguese girlie herself. Number one, a restaurant should be mainly full with Portuguese people. Tourist traps here in Portugal, especially near the beach areas. So make sure you choose a restaurant with actual Portuguese food. Secondly, a proper Portuguese restaurant will serve you bread and olives before you even order food. They do charge for the bread, so if you don't want it, ask them to take it away. Okay, next is look out for the condiments on your table. The olive oil should be Azeite Gallo, which is the one everyone uses here. This place here is one of my family's go-to lunch spots, where they serve amazing fish and seafood. We ordered some of our favorites, gambas and amêijoas à bulhão pato, which are the best clams in the world. And one thing about Portugal that I love is when we eat our fish, we mostly just eat it simple and we eat it whole. No crazy sauces or anything, just really fresh fish, olive oil, and a little bit of lemon. And this way of eating it is very common in the Algarve where I'm from, which is why I think I prefer my fish simple and grilled instead of how they have it in England, which is battered and fried, which I still haven't gotten used to. And of course, a fish that is super representative. Sardines. But when I was a child, I hated sardines because it's so hard to take all the bones out. But now that I'm older, in fact delicious.
