Stop using your key light wrong. And do it like this. Stop pointing your key light directly at your subject. What you're doing is you're creating hot spots all over the face and you're losing that soft cinematic look on skin. Plus, crazy spill on the background. This is my favorite setup. It's called feathering. Aim the key light past your face so that you're only being lit by the outside of the softbox, not the harsh spot in the middle where the light source is. What this does is it gives you a cinematic look, reduces your hot spots and takes all light off the background, so you can light it independently. Now you know.
