Here are the three credit cards that I would cancel in 2026. I'm Tyler. I'm a former financial advisor and portfolio manager. And now I make financial content for free so you don't have to pay for it. Number one, any store credit card that you opened for a discount. Sure. You save 20% on that first purchase and you have since paid 29.99% APR. On a rotating balance for 18 months. The store won and you funded it. Store credit cards exist for one reason, and it is not your financial well-being. It is to keep you psychologically tethered to a single retailer while charging you the highest interest rate legally permitted. Cancel the card. Shop there if you want. Just pay cash. No. 2. Any card with an annual fee that you can't justify with actual rewards. Sit down right now. Add up every reward, credit, and benefit that you actually used from your annual fee card in the past 12 months. Not the ones that were available to use, the ones you did use. If that number is less than the fee you paid, you just donated money to a bank. They appreciated it. You should not repeat this experience. Number three, your first credit card. That one you got at 19 years old with a 500 dollar limit, a 27% APR. The design that has not been updated since the Clinton administration. You kept it for the credit history, which is valid, but you don't need to keep it active anymore. A better card with a longer tenure now exists in your wallet. Call and cancel the one that never quite grew up with you. And if any of this is helpful, sign up for my free weekly newsletter by clicking the link in my bio, and each week I'll send you over another money playbook that actually works.
