I install a four-way splitter on my water spigot. These cost about $25 at your local garden center or hardware store. Then you can buy a timer which you can install on one of the branches. Run a regular hose over to the plants you want watered. Attach a soaker hose and wind it around the base of your plants. Adjust the water pressure so that water is slowly leaching into the soil. On a day when the top inch of soil is dry run the soaker hose and figure out how long it should run for all of your soil to be saturated. Then figure out about how many days it takes for the top inch of your soil to dry out. That’s how many days apart you want to run your timer and it’s best to run your timer early in the morning.
