So I went to the number one public STEM magnet high school,

So I went to the number one public STEM magnet high school, and now I study engineering at Rice University. So I'm gonna compare the difficulty and class workloads between the two schools. I've only had one year in college, so I'll just be basing my comparison off of my freshman year. But obviously, like, sophomore, junior, senior year can be very different. I would say that my first year at Rice, in terms of the workload, was miles easier than my junior and senior year at TJ, short for Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. Because at TJ, sometimes I would have to study like, 10 hours per day, stay up super late, spend my entire weekend studying. But at Rice, I had a lot better of a work life balance, and I only study like, a couple hours per day. Um, depending on when I had exams and stuff, I would study more or if I didn't have assignments, less. Overall, I think it was lighter because I'm taking less classes in total, like about six classes per semester, versus that TJ. When I took eight classes at a time. Also, classes take up a much smaller portion of your day, so you have a lot more free time to do extracurriculars and to study. So it's not like you go to school for eight hours and then have to study a ton after that and stay up super late. So I felt like I had a lot more time to myself. But in terms of the class difficulty level, especially for my STEM classes, I would say they were a bit harder than what I expected. The classes move at a very fast pace since you're cramming a lot of material into just a semester versus a year in high school. And the exams are pretty long and hard, but definitely less frequent than tests I had in high school. I would have tests three times a semester at Rice versus, like, every other week at TJ. So I was studying for exams a lot less. But also I know that the workload intensifies a lot during later years. And freshman year is usually the easiest one. Like at TJ, freshman, sophomore years were totally chill, and it only got hard towards the end. So we'll see how that goes at Rice.
