I saw your manager is retiring. Are you gonna apply for the promotion? No. Why not? No, why not? Because I've watched what that job does to people. Mean? It's a promotion. Mean? It's a promotion. It's also twice, twice the stress, and everyone's problems suddenly become your problems. Suddenly become your problems. Yeah, but that's how you move up. Move up where? The manager gets here before everybody else, after everybody else, gets calls on vacation, and somehow always ends up working weekends. Ends up working weekends. More money. Some are, but people aren't making enough to justify all of that extra responsibility. Of that extra responsibility. When I was your age, everyone wanted to climb the corporate ladder. Every rung felt like a real step up. Now, promotion just means additional responsibilities without a proportional increase in pay. Have any ambition? Do I wanna make more money? Wanna sacrifice every night, every weekend, and my sanity just to be comfortable. That's it? Yeah. That's it? Yeah. If companies want employees to continue to wanna climb the ladder, make sure the next rung is actually worth climbing.
