Before Patrick Cheng owned a restaurant, he learned the food business from the loading dock. Growing up in Chicago, his journey began in his family’s food distribution business. Starting as a warehouse picker and later becoming a delivery driver, he saw firsthand the challenges small businesses face with outdated technology and systems. After moving to Atlanta, Patrick acquired a struggling restaurant and began using ChatGPT to redesign menus, optimize pricing, create staff training materials, streamline catering operations, and improve marketing and customer communications. The result? More than 200% growth in sales, a tripling of the restaurant’s catering business, and more than 8,000 free meals provided to local nonprofits and community organizations. Now he’s turning that playbook outward with NextGen, a nonprofit dedicated to helping family-owned businesses modernize through AI adoption, technology education, and micro-grants.
