HERE'S A MEDIA LITERACY

Here's a media literacy challenge for you. Watch the same event on Fox News, then watch it anywhere else. Not because one outlet is automatically right, and the other is automatically wrong. Because framing matters. Pay attention to what Fox chooses to lead with, what adjectives they use, who gets interviewed, what clips get replayed over and over and over again. And maybe even more importantly, what stories barely get mentioned at all. Every news organization makes editorial decisions. Every single one. The difference is whether you're aware those decisions are shaping how you see the world. If the only information you consume comes from one outlet, Fox, MSNBC, CNN, whoever, you aren't getting the full picture. You're getting a picture. Media literacy isn't picking a team. It's learning to recognize when someone is trying to pick one for you. The most informed people don't just ask, 'What am I being told?' They ask, 'What am I not being shown?' That's where the story usually starts.
